Getting Out ‘Hard to Remove’ Stains

Listed below (in order of preference) are 3 tried and true methods for getting those hard-to-remove stains out of your diapers.

1. Sunshine
Sunshine is the most natural stain remover. As soon as your diapers are finished washing take them outside and lay them (or hang) in the sun. Be sure to add a 1/4 cup (or 4 tablespoons) of white distilled vinegar to the rinse cycle to avoid them feeling crunchy after drying.

2. Peroxide
Simply add 1/4 cup (or 4 tablespoons) of peroxide to the wash cycle. This is much safer and gentler than bleach.

3. Detergent Paste
Make a paste using your favorite cloth diaper detergent and apply liberally to the stains you want to remove. NOTE: This method only works with powdered detergent – not liquid.

Step 1: Mix 2 tablespoons of detergent with 1 tablespoon of water in a bowl

Step 2: Spoon out the paste and place it directly on the stain

Step 3: Using an old toothbrush, brush paste in a circular motion over the surface of the stain

Step 4: Leave the stain overnight to set

Step 5: Launder as usual (no need to remove the paste before washing)
